Sgt. McDonald Bayonets Maj. Gainey (Historical Marker)
Georgetown County erected a Historical Marker in 1938 which marks the site where "Sgt. McDonald bayoneted the fleeing Maj. Gainey, following the defeat of the tories under Maj. Gainey by the Americans under Col. Peter Horry. This bloody skirmish took place January 1781, between Sampit and the Black River Roads."
