Housed in a Carnegie Library built in 1917, the Williamsburgh Historical Museum in Kingstree features displays and exhibits relating to Williamsburg County's rich history and artifacts from the region's Native American era, Colonial Period, the Revolution, the South Carolina slave culture, agriculture, the military and other topics related to local history.

Site Description
Housed in a Carnegie Library built in 1917, the Williamsburgh Historical Museum in Kingstree features displays and exhibits relating to Williamsburg County's rich history and artifacts from the region's Native American Era, Colonial Period, the Revolution, the South Carolina slave culture, agriculture, the military and other topics related to local history. The museum also has brochures for the locations of several Francis Marion Revolutionary War sites.

Nearby is the Thorntree House, which is the home of Colonial planter James Witherspoon and the oldest home in South Carolina's Pee Dee Region. It was moved into town from its original site on Black River, where it was built in 1749, and occupied by British troops during the Revolution. The home has been handsomely restored, featuring English-style cornices, mantles and woodwork, and is available for tours.
